On Friday afternoon Linnea used permanent marker to draw portraits on the walls. There was a 3'6" one of me, a 3' tall one of Rob (with beard), and a little 12" one of Emer. They were on the appropriate bedroom walls, as labels.

They were really, really good.

So I scrubbed them off as best Icould, and explained to Linnea that we had to use wall-paint to cover the blackmarks, and we went to bed.The next morning, we all got up, and explained the deal to Linnea again; we can't go to town to see Maisy at the bookshop until the pictures are painted over. After eating Iasked Linnea "Can you remember what we're going to do today?"

"Yes," she said sadly, "we're going to ruin my pictures."

And she took the smallest brush and painted carefully over the lines.

Of course, I had to finish it off, but she did it.

She still talks about them, but I have a feeling the lesson stuck.

That night Rob and I made the Corner.

those magic sponge things that you can buy do actually work. we have found them to be very useful.

we have had drawings on the wall that were so good that I wanted to take a picture for posterity, but felt that doing that would send the wrong message...

We've got a big roll of paper for this sort of thing. Also ideal for doing life-sized outlines of people to be coloured in.

If you don't have a camera, I'm sure I can find one somewhere here.

I didn't have time to comment last night, but how sad, for all of you.
