ailbhe: (trike)

It's a lovely red one, lots of hi-vis stickers, so if anyone spots it anywhere in England, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 to report it. Without it we're in trouble, because I can't walk very far these days.

We've reported it to the police and are trying to let local friends know, but this was probably a stolen-to-order deal; the trike was taken locks and all, quietly; normally I'd wake if someone was fiddling with it, which people do in passing because it's interesting. It's parked just outside our bedroom window. It's my guess that a couple of men loaded it into a van, and dealt with the locks later.

Bastards.

Oh no! That's so monstrously shit. I'm so sorry.

Every time I get a bike robbed, I remind myself that the cost of a bike is about the cost of insurance on a car for a month, never mind tax, petrol and the cost of the car itself. I know the trike is significantly more, but you've still saved enormously. But bah. The bastards. It's so infuriating knowing that there is no possible way that they could need or use it more than you do.

Oh *&^$£%. Do you have a big picture of it, just in case one of us does see it?

Wouldn't help with the hassle factor anyway I know, but was it insured?

Oh that's really, really sad.:(
I remember how excited you were when you got it and your reports of trips in it were always lovely.
I hope it turns up and that you will be reunited.

A thousand curses on the thieves who took it. >I-

Wow. I really really hope you get it back. I just can't remember the last time I left anything of value (smaller than a car) outside without using a lock to attach it to something that it couldn't be separated from!! Is it normal in your area to leave valuable things out like that? I'm so sorry this has happened...

Indeed, sounds on the low end. The bicycles I have been looking at all seem to hover around the 100 quid mark.

Oh, the evil evil evil scum! That's so horrible and unnecessary. I suppose the consolation is that I can't imagine anyone getting away with riding it and not being spotted, since it's so unusual.

Poor you. Having things stolen is such a nasty violation, let alone something you need so much.

Ach, it depends. It depends if you're prepared to buy a second-hand bike, which is probably robbed anyway, it depends where you live, and it certainly depends on where you insure your car. As Ailbhe says, in Ireland the insurance is very high, particularly for young men.

The thieves are bastards, and it's a horrible blow. I know it's somewhat false comfort to try and console myself with thoughts that a car would be more expensive, but for me anyway, I know that playing that kind of mental game at least stops me from physically attacking every bike rider I see in rage whenever my bike is stolen...

Depends on where you live, I guess. Here, people leave bikes out all the time. Ditto children's toys and other stuff that's not locked at all.
