Confined to quarters
Feb. 3rd, 2007 07:32 pmIt's odd how my confinement has isolated me. Normally, there are local friends in about as much as I go out, but the past three weeks - it's been three weeks since I got ill - Linnea has gone out, mainly. Three families have visited once each. Of course, I am too tired to enjoy visits anyway - it was lovely having a houseful of life yesterday, but I slept through some of it! - but since coming here from Spain leaving my five aunties and six mothers I have found friends and made a point of seeing most of them fairly regularly; their children are Linnea's friends; we've got used to it. There were times when we wished it was just the three or four of us again, but they were rare.
When I get back, we have almost a week before my sister comes to stay; after that I'd really like to have every other weekend with guests for a while. I am starving for company. The trick is to not be so ill I zone out while talking to people, get short-tempered, or fall asleep mid-conversation.
I have a feeling it's going to be a while before I get back onto my normal schedule, let alone have guests every other weekend. But there's only so much time I can spend online.
Perhaps what I need is to start writing letters on paper.

Date: 2007-02-03 09:26 pm (UTC)Is it possible to arrange for people to visit you little and often, say for 20-30 minutes at a time, long enough to feel you've seen someone, but not too long?

Date: 2007-02-03 11:54 pm (UTC)With my sister G, m-i-l's birthday the following week, 4 weeks of not much, then a week's rest, then a week with all y'all (whoopee!), then 4 weeks of not much, then f-i-l's birthday, then sometime in June is the traintrip to Sweden, in July the DW Jamboree, then Emer's birthday in August, then Rob's birthday in September, then October, then my birthday, then Christmas.
Perhaps the year won't be so dull after all! But the rest break is important, we think.

Date: 2007-02-04 03:05 pm (UTC)Yes. Letters are good, or emails. It is possible to have a social life mainly through irc and phone, if neither tire you out. Good friends will deal with you flaking out mid-sentence and will bring books to read.
I won't be able to see you any time before May (probably not for a while after either), and you will be completely better by then. I insist.
The rest break sounds like a good idea.
