Meme: Five Reasons I Think I Am A Good Parent

Dunno who started this but I've been resisting and resisting, which is easy, and now I've caved in, which is harder. I'm even going to try to avoid answers like "because I'm deluded."

I am a good parent because:

1) I don't lie to my children.

2) I pay attention to my children's needs and desires, even when they don't vocalise them.

3) I do not expect my children to be adults. Nor do I expect them to be imbeciles. I expect them to be their own individual selves.

4) I trust my children.

5) I do my damnedest to make sure that the many decisions I have to make on their behalves, often against their wills, are well-informed decisions with their long-term best interests at heart.

The making decisions for them thing is tough. That's something the NHs parenting classes could do with - a short bit about what this actually means. Of course, i'm not sure the NHS wants us to know how much say we do have.

Hurrah! Thank you! I use it periodically but no-one's ever remarked on it before. It's always seemed... sort of obvious to me, but I think it might actually be rather obscure.
