Things I already do:
Re-using plastic shopping bags and packaging where possible (and giving them to places that re-use them eg charity shops)
Buying recycled bin bags (we don't usually use bin bags)
Using a digital camera rather than films
Not using disposable razors
Not using shaving gel
Using a rechargeable toothbrush with replaceable heads
Using a reusable sanitary product
Re-using scrap paper
Taking part in a book swap
Hiring DVDs rather than buying them unless I'm sure I'll watch them more than once
Composting
Carrying a spare bag with me to reduce the need for plastic bags
Recycling everything that is recyclable in our borough
Reducing the amount of toiletries I use and trying to buy environmentally-friendly ones
Registered with mail preference service
Trying to buy less stuff
Not leaving the tap running while brushing my teeth, washing vegetables etc
Sharing baths
Using waste water to water plants, soak dishes etc
Using biodegradable washing-up liquid, laundry powder etc
Turning down the heat under pans once they boil
Not running dishwasher or washing machine unless they're full
Washing things at the lowest practical temperature
Putting on extra layers in winter before turning up heating
Using energy-saving lightbulbs where possible
Buying energy-efficient appliances
Not using weedkillers or artificial fertilisers
Allowing clovers to grow in garden to maintain nitrogen in soil
Allowing plants to self-seed
Drinking tap water rather than bottled water
Buying local, organic or fair trade food where possible
Using public transport where possible
Use libraries, book swaps and second-hand booksellers more rather than buying new books
Cover pans while bringing them to the boil
When using the oven for a main dish, tried to do side dishes in the oven as well, rather than on the hob.
Started hanging clothes outside to dry where possible.
Decreased the amount of meat I eat.
Things I think I ought to be doing:
Only boiling as much water as I need
Using a stack-steamer for vegetables (we have a second-hand one that doesn't work well)
Avoid eating fish from over-exploited species such as cod
Stopped buying non-organic fish.
Re-use envelopes (I reuse big or padded envelopes)
Generally buy second-hand where possible
Use cotton hankies more rather than paper tissues (we already use cotton nappies and babywipes)
Turn off chargers at the wall when not in use
Buy house plants rather than cut flowers
Suggest to [a group] that we have a charitable collection in lieu of a Christmas card exchange
Switched over to green electricity.
Stopped using shampoo and conditioner.
Registered with the Royal Mail's service to opt out of "To the occupier" deliveries.
Bought a proper re-usable water bottle rather than repeatedly buying disposable bottles.
Started carbon offsetting.
Put pencil shavings on the compost rather than in the bin.
If I need to buy paper stationery, make sure it's recycled.
Put a note with my will asking to be buried in an environmentally-friendly coffin
Things irrelevant to my life:
Cleaning out the lint tray of the dryer after each use
Cutting up plastic beer-can holders before throwing them away
Switch off my office light when I leave for the day
Largely stopped using make-up.
Switched to organic wine.
Buy beer cans in cardboard boxes rather than plastic holders.
