My turn: 39.8C

I'm in bed. I was in hospital on Friday night; I popped in to the drop-in clinic with my earache, dizziness, nausea etc, and they referred me to the clinical decision unit. After paracetemol my temperature rose to 39.8C, so they gave me IV saline and an anti-emetic, and oral penicillin.

This morning my temperature was back up to 39.6C and now it's down to 38.5 give or take a tenth of a degree.

I think I might be ill. Still, at least today I can walk. Friday, especially Friday night, I was too dizzy to be upright, and fell over on the way to the taxi.

I'm very tired.

Oh blimey, no wonder you sounded so odd on the phone!

Hope you're not walking too much, even if the novelty is exciting. Stay in bed and be looked after, and I hope you feel much much better soon.

Out of academic interest, what happens about breastfeeding when you're this sick? I seem to remember (from an entirely separate issue that has nothing to do with feeding babies) that most nasties don't get passed on in breast milk, but I guess if you're already dehydrated...

Specific immunity to the thing I've got is what gets passed on, with the exception of things like HIV. That said, it's really, really hard. Like, really hard. Like I told Rob to take Emer away and pace the corridors of the hospital with her for a bit because I couldn't cope.
