The five timeperiods poll
Oct. 19th, 2006 08:12 pmI've done this every year for a while now - Oct 17 2001, Oct 19 2002, Oct 29 2003, Oct 2 2004, Oct 10 2005.
What I was doing...
What I was doing...
- 5 minutes ago: Tidying a plastic crate of miscellaneous junk from the dining table - it's been around since we tore up the carpet.
- 5 hours ago: Visiting M&L, drinking tea and feeding Emer, while Linnea and L played remarkably nicely together. We'd pretty much finished lunch at this point.
- 5 days ago: Sunday afternoon, we travelled back from Rob's parents and met Dave-the-archaeologist for lunch in London. We also tore up the carpet, hurrah!
- 5 weeks ago: Ummmm. Emer was just over 4 weeks old. My mother had gone home. I was mastering the art of carrying and feeding her in the ring sling, and we did our first big outing together, to ERAPA. Earlier in the week we all went to A&E because I hit Emer's head on a doorframe while fighting with Linnea over something utterly, utterly trivial. I wrote the first post-Emer pome.
- 5 months ago: I was pregnant. Rob and I were sorting out some really heavy relationship issues, and we had just got the tricycle and were revelling in our newfound freedom. I was also sorting out my birth plan, and researching the non-c-section options. I missed the wedding of one of our best friends, but Rob attended. Linnea and I stayed behind in the UK and Dave the archaeologist came to stay the weekend to keep me company.
radegund and O came to stay, which was fabulous, and no-one got much sleep. Rob and Linnea and I camped in Henley for a weekend and had a marvellous, if damp, time. Oh! this was the month Linnea wriggled out of her safety straps in the trike while we were going around a very big roundabout. Gosh. That was nasty. She hasn't done it since, and we've avoided that roundabout since, too. - 5 years ago: We were living in this house and had been engaged one year. My LJ was extremely new. I was unemployed and actively looking for work. There was an enormous in-family drama about mine and my mother's birthday (1st Nov) which didn't cause lasting damage as far as I can see. We built the bookshelves in the library. I realised I was a real honest to goodness grownup - all my friends and I had mortgages, fergawdsakes - and was a bit alarmed by it (I lamented not owning any tight black jeans; I still don't, but I no longer see this as a disadvantage). Oh, and I watched The Others, which was so scary Janice slept with her bedroom light on and I'm not sure I remember sleeping at all afterwards.

Date: 2006-10-19 07:59 pm (UTC)PS. I've sent you a birthday card by Special (I think that's their word for 'more expensive') Post, so hopefully you will actually receive it before your birthday. I have the most atrocious luck with posting you things, but the wedding invite was sent Special Post and you got that, so I thought I'd try it that way again...

Date: 2006-10-19 10:58 pm (UTC)I'm Radegund's friend snooping around. I really enjoyed reading this. It must get more enjoyable to write this every year. I am so delighted that someone else talks with their [insert equivalent of Rob] about when to start trying for a baby - it's amazing to read that having kept up with your adventures with your daughters! It really does all start with an idea...
Thank you, it's a pleasure to read your journal.

Still does, really, but I have my moments...
