Give me your best suggestions for hoarse, wheezy coughing child who has *severe* aversion to oral medication!

Karvol plug-in inhalor. We swear by them.

When I had whooping cough, I got relief by sitting in hot steam. I dug the wall paper steamer out of the cupboard, switched it on in the bathroom, and got into a hot bath and sat in a mist of hot steam. Helped.

Inhalations over steam with tiny tiny amount of olbas oil - however I guess due to her age, you'd have to get under the towel with her. Could make it a game I guess?

Oh - you could rub vicks on her chest - much safer, or drop olbas oil on a hanky and tuck it in her pillow?

Cushions and pillows and a duvet in the bathroom - cuddled up, with steam taking over the room - bath, sink...

(some people, especially small ones, find that peppermint causes them to choke and have trouble breathing.)

My parents generally used the 'steamy bathroom' approach for their asthmatic toddler.

Second all the recommendations for steam, but also suggest 1/2 teaspoonful of honey, which I'm sure she won't mind sucking off a spoon.

Put a drop of lavender oil on her pillow or nightclothes, too, to help her sleep.

I'm sure that I have read that honey is at least as good as cough medicine for that sort of hoarse dry cough. I usually offer honey and lemon, or honey in apple juice, or honey in rooibos vanilla tea.

How's she doing today?

Ah yes - http://www.livescience.com/health/071203-honey-cough.html

Anyway, hope she doesn't need it today.
