As Charlotte might say.
Rob had the day off; we had an appointment in the morning which went very well, and then in ther afternoon we went to the hospital, ate lunch, and then spent almost four hours doing the pre-op thing.
We saw a healthcare assistant, a midwife, the anaesthetist (who took me seriously, which was marvellous), an obstetrician SHO person, and another midwife. We also, eventually and with a bit of difficulty, were shown an operating theatre.
I'm glad we did that this week, and didn't wait until the morning of the operation. It was upsetting enough that I needed a 90-minute nap this evening to recover. I did not have a flashback, nor a panic attack, really, but I did shake uncontrollably, feel sick, cry, and other fairly normal fear responses. Now that I know what I'm going to face in a week's time, I can cope much better.
The anaesthetist takes the possibility of my having a panic attack or flashback seriously, is happy to give me gas and air if necessary, and warned me that a general anaesthetic might be necessary if I get uncontrolled. I knew that, and find it sort of reassuring that he does too. To be honest, knowing that they are prepared for me to freak out reduces the chances of my freaking out, because I won't be trying to suppress it in the same way. I'll be able to cry if I need to, which means I shouldn't need to scream, if you see what I mean.
After that we found out how to get a wheelchair from the Oracle so I can be wheeled around the town centre when Rob next has time off work - maybe Thursday morning. He really needs a morning off so that he can have a lie-in.
And then the cleaners booked for tomorrow morning called to change to Thursday morning, which is annoying but not devestating. I will try to spend most of tomorrow lying down in bed, since I spent most of today sitting upright and walking and boy does my pelvis know all about it.
The woman who was babysitting Linnea didn't want to take her pay, because she had too much fun. We made her do it though because we may want her to do it again soon, and just because you enjoy your job doesn't mean you shouldn't be paid for it. Linnea had a fabulous time too :)
