ailbhe: (baby)

Last night, Rob left for work at 19:45 and got back at 4:45. Uhuh. The single point of failure he is aiming to replace? Failed.

I can't sleep well when I know someone is going to come into the house after I'm asleep. So by the time he got back I'd had about 2 hours sleep at the most generous estimate - probably less. Also, Linnea woke once crying for him, which took a bit of explaining. She mainly woke asking for me, which was easy, though.

Anyway, the end result of this is that we were all exhausted all day today, and oddly, this was a good thing. We were too tired to do anything, so we didn't. We breakfasted late, sat in the garden drinking tea and eating bread and butter, sat in the library together reading (Linnea has several Mog books at the moment), and Linnea and I spent a long time poking at and talking to the new baby (Nea's baby. No Mammy's baby. No Daddy's baby. Nea's baby. Yes, but who's going to clean up after it?)

And eventually we all went out swimming. Linnea has still got the confidence problem I noticed on Tuesday, though singing "swimming like a [shark|rabbit|big fish]" helped a lot, again.

After swimming we triked into town and had a cuppa at Starbucks, because I'm morally bankrupt and Coffee Republic smells funny. Then we came home. Rob is preparing dinner and I have trimmed Linnea's fingernails and sat around feeling terribly, terribly pregnant.

With good cause: It's 5-8 weeks until B-Day, depending on what happens. The baby has dropped right in between my hips now, and is sitting pretty in there, having returned most of my waistline to me - I have a waistline even from the front, if I'm moving around, and it's really quite clear from the back, given I'm 7 months pregnant. I look like I've had a basketball shoved into my pelvic cavity. There's a handspan between my bust and the top of my bump if I sit up straight. I have no need to waddle. This baby hasn't got hiccups, nor Linnea's disconcerting habit of rolling right over from back-to-the-left to back-to-the-right and back again - it just kicks and scrabbles, mainly, though it does stretch every now and then, up to my ribs and down to my cervix.

The Braxton-Hicks contractions are about the same - I can talk through them with effort, I can sometimes move through them though never actually walk, or at least, never walk upright. Having them in the swimming pool is a little alarming, though I've yet to have one and not have a float close to hand to support myself. My uterus is some kind of workout addict with a thing about late-night orgies of Jane Fonda DVDs. It's a lot fitter than the rest of me, that's for sure.

Are Starbucks really that evil? They seem to be moving towards fair trade coffee, they've long, long had a very good rep as employers who treat employess as people, they just don't seem that evil to me.

Nestle and Shell are definitely evil, but I can't feel the same about Starbucks.

I'd just like to say thanks for the recommendation of Bravado bras - the two I'd ordered arrived yesterday and I've been wearing them over the weekend and finding them fabulously comfortable.

Rhiannon did this as well, even when we were swimming every week. Every now and then she would go through a phase of not wanting to let go, and would cling onto my neck as if she had never been in the water before. It didn't matter how many other children were there, or toys to play with, she would not swim on her own. She would still get excited about going swimming, be really keen to get into the water, it was just once we were in, she wouldn't swim.
She's fine now, must just be another one of those phases they go through!
