Not content with the Baby Einstein book which, at one point, says "Cow puffs his cheeks full of air," the universe has thrown us a whole FILM about boy cows!

So should I laugh or cry?

One to go with the TV add for (I think) Anchor butter where the cartoon cows very clearly have udders, but are voiced by male actors, one of whom is Stephen Fry.

Also the Boddingtons beer ads a few years ago. Very male cows.

Here in the Uk there's the boddington's beer cow and the some brand or other butter spokescows AND the Dairylea cows, all of which have male voices and udders. Drives me insane.

I worked it out :)

BTW, why don't you feel able to change the gender when reading it? Is it because you hope L is learning to read through the reading out loud and you don't want to confuse? Or does it feel like a lie?

Clearly it is only acceptable for cows with full udders to be shown on TV if they are male. Everyone knows, after all, that female udders (oops, that should say breasts) full of milk are obscene, don't they?!

My friend had a website about this very issue... Sadly the website has been deleted. I will see if my friend will reupload it for your amusement.

I'll see your boy cows and raise you "Daddy Billy Goat Gruff, Mummy Billy Goat Gruff and Baby Billy Goat Gruff"

Can't remember whether that was the Tweenies, or whether they just had one or two of them referred to as "she" (after all, we can't be sexist can we?)
