We went to Tiggers Toddlers in the trike, which was easy as this end of town has things like dropped kerbs where cycles are supposed to mount the pavement, and when we came home we had lunch. I baked Linnea a potato in the microwave, a personal first, and she seems very pleased with it. I also did laundry and tidying and all that good stuff.
Then at two the Homestart person came and Linnea was thrilled. She's taken to her hugely. I napped twice - once sitting in the garden, at the table with my head on my arms, and once sittig in the dining room, same pose, different table. The Homestart person volunteered to hand my laundry but I couldn't bring myself to accept. The fact that she comes and plays with Linnea during the lowest, tiredest part of my day is already a huge bonus, plus she talks to me.
Someone at Tiggers wanted to know if I was going to get in trouble with the authorities for not sending Linnea to school. I explained that children have to get an education, but not neccessarily from a school, and paraphrased
as "Every child is entitled by law to an education suitable to their individual needs and abilities, either from a school or otherwise" which wasn't too bad really as paraphrases go. She was baffled, but interested. She says she's going to miss her daughter madly when she goes to school, but could never have the confidence to try home education; I said "well, then it's not for you." I think she thought I thought (confused yet?) that it is something everyone ought to do to be a Really Good Mother. She was also confused that I was going to home educate Linnea without enforcing formal home tutoring, until I explained that we'd never done any formal home tutoring and Linnea had taught herself to count, mix paints to get the colours she wants, dress and undress, et cetera et cetera.
It's funny how worried she seemed by the whole concept.
But it got me thinking - I bet I could contact local Home Ed groups now, to find more groups of people for Linnea to play with. All the local nurseries seem to put the 2y0d to 2y364d kids in the same room, with other year-groups in other rooms, and that's relaly not appropriate for Linnea; I want her to have a range of people further ahead as well as about where she is and a bit behind, and that age range just won't provide the kind of range I want. But a Home Ed group will, if I can find one I like.
Something to fit into our schedule, I think, along with Tuesday aquanatal classes, Wednesday toddler group, Thursday NCT coffee, Friday library... I think I might need to work on our schedule. Thing is, I'm too tired in the afternoons to do anything.

The parent of every child of compulsory school age shall cause him to receive efficient full-time education suitable
(a) to his age, ability and aptitude, and
(b) to any special educational needs he may have, either by regular attendance at school or otherwise.
