ailbhe: (going places)

I was reminded today that cancer research is important, and I should ask for sponsorship again. My sponsorship page is here. I'm doing the "Race for Life" seven months pregnant with some, ah, physical issues, so I will be at the back of the walking pack with a bump. Rob will be waiting somewhere with Linnea, as there are no buggies allowed on the track at all, or I'd have done it with her.

I'm not walking in memory of anyone, or because anyone in particular has cancer. I'm walking because I, like everyone, know someone who knows someone who died, or almost died, or had the cancer caught so early there was hardly time to worry before it was all gone. I'm walking because there may be a pap vaccine by the time Linnea is old enough to be sent her first "You must come for a pap smear" letter from the GP. I'm walking because however many prostate or testicular cancer leaflets the GP puts out, almost no men ask for a check of any kind, and they certainly don't get regular letters saying "The Stirrups Await."

Sponsor me. Sponsor someone, anyone, or just donate straight to the charity. And I hope you never need to worry about it, just as I've never needed to. Yet.

I am sponsoring my sister and my 7 year-old niece. They are walking in memory of my sister's friend who died last year of breast cancer. It was at her wedding 12 years ago that my sister met her husband.

OK, this is not directly relevant to this post, but here's thread about positive C/S stories that you might like to read. I can recommend the forum in general - v. supportive, v. non-judgmental. But most of the people have moved to Damsels now.
