L for Linnea, covered in beans.
L for Lactivism, whatever that means.
L for Laziness, much under-rated,
And L for Lagom, much like satiated.
Linnea is the sun and the stars and the slurry pit in my life. High flights of joy and moments of very productive slogging. I am still feeling hugely privileged to be allowed to be her mother, and I find her more fascinating daily.
Lactivism is the promotion of breastfeeding, more or less, including working to limit harmful-to-breastfeeding practices in hospitals, the distribution of misinformation by doctors, midwives, nurses etc, and the bit I am most active in is trying to make sure that mothers trying to breastfeed have access to genuine support, rather than just "Breast is best - have a bottle" which does bugger all except make people feel guilty for not breastfeeding without having given them any useful information or support when they were trying. I get really annoyed at pro-guilt lactivists. Guilt is about the least useful emotion I can think of.
Laziness is part of my life-philosophy and definitely a big part of my parenting philosophy. I fit's work I don't do it. Trying to make a two-year-old behave like an adult? Hard work, long-term. Making the house two-year-old friendly? Hard work short-term. Cooking or buying special food for babies? Hard work. Cooking food for adults suitable for babies to eat? Easy. And so on.
Lagom is a word Rob's family use. It means something like enough, contentment, sufficient, sated, things like that. Neither too much nor too little.
