This morning the children were in my bed when I woke up and crawled out. I did a load of laundry, a load in the dishwasher, got breakfast (such as it was; in the end everyone ate satsumas and flapjacks) and did some reading with Linnea. She's really getting going on that. Then I went to take in dry laundry preparatory to hanging wet out, and had to deal with a dead rat.

I hate rats. But we live in a built-up area, so they're here. I guess at least we have cats so the ones in our lives are mostly dead.

But after I bagged the dead rat and left it on top of the recycling bin, I wasn't able to bring myself to bring the landfill bin through the house and put it in. Nor was I able to bring myself to hang the damn laundry. Yuck.

The rest of the day was taken up with playdough, elderly and crumbling; board games, all mixed up; card games, all mixed up; tiddlywinks ("NO, Emer, that's not the RULES!"), nakedness, bottoms, unforeseen visitors, and at some point I had a bath and read another page or two of my current book.

And at some point Linnea made herself a passport including a picture of a globe to show where she comes from. I think passports with maps in would be ace.

The old Dutch passports used to have the history of the Netherlands drawn on the stamp pages, from the mammoths to the modern age. I still miss them.
