ailbhe: (playing with linnea)

Just the other day I was talking to someone who asked whether Linnea was doing representational drawing yet, and I said not really, because although she draws and announces that she's drawing a wheel, that's it. One representation, which anyway I think is based on the Fimbles.

So this morning first she drew a "circle" and coloured it in - inside the lines for the most part, and then she drew a head, eyes, a nose, and ears. So much for non-representational. Wow. I'm impressed.

The circle was sort of like a fish-sketch, if you know the simple fish shape I mean, only the triangle of the tail wasn't closed.

We got her a better booster seat and some playdough, later, because when we had a guest over for lunch there was only one booster seat between two kids, and the booster seat we bought at first was primarily intended for travel anyway and wasn't ideal for everyday use.

Dinner was leftover Pat Kight's Curry and it was splendid, but it's too hot for Linnea. Less cayenne next time.

Coo.

JoJo does scribbles most of the time but once a month does something absolutely stunning: a reclining cat, complete with ears, nose, mouth, ears, tail, paws, claws and fur was the first.

Jack can't draw things yet, though his favourite activity at home is pen&paper. Often his scribble is, quite clearly, directed, but he doesn't seem to be able to link what his hand does with whatever mental image he has of things. He'll sometimes do straight(ish) lines, or attempts at circles, and recently did deliberately sawtoothed lines. But nothing clearly representational. He makes me draw cars, mostly. Boats next fave. I slip in my abysmal attempts at various animals, people, geometric figures, etc when I get the chance, often doing the really easy versions to try to let him see how to get started - the christian-bumper-sticker version of a fish, say, or a stick man, etc. But about all we can say for sure is that he seems to have settled on being right handed.
