Those of you worried about last night's pome - no, nothing new has happened, it's me harping on about the same ole same ole.

The phonecall

Last weekend, while Rob was away, I got a phonecall.

"Is that Mrs Collier?"
"That's not my name, but that's me." (I assumed it was a salesperson).
"This is the Police Emergency Department."
"*choking noise*"
"Are you at [address]?"
"Yes, yes."
"We've received a call -"
"Uh - " (I was thinking "Is Rob OK?" but I don't know whether I said it aloud)
" - from this number."
"Oh, thank goodness."
"Did anyone dial 999?"
"No?"
"Do you have a small child in the house?"
"Oh gosh. It was the baby. Oh thank god. It was only the baby. Oh gosh."

I don't remember how the call ended.

The Dreams

I have dreamed recently that I left my rucksack behind the last time I travelled home from Ireland. And last night I dreamed that I had left it behind in the UK this time, and arrived in Dublin without it. I was travelling with Linnea, or sometimes with my sister Niamh, in her younger, whinier days, and she was ill, to boot. I had to conceal the panic of having lost the rucksack and manage the trip without the essentials it contained and I didn't have time to go shopping to replace the stuff.

Most irritating. Especially given that http://www.ecobaby.ie/ have failed to deliver the nappies to my mother's house - I ordered on Monday, was told they'd arrive on Wednesday at the latest, and they are Still Not There. Current plan is to order some to be delivered to Radegund's house for my arrival, since they claim next-day delivery is easy, and then I'll have to schlep a cubic metre of nappies across Ireland too. Bah.

The New Word

Waab!

This is an effective parent-summoning word. She started it last night, or maybe the night before, because she was on my lap and heard me call Rob! long and loud to rescue me from whatever painful indignity she was inflicting on me.

It's really very, very funny.

She has other new words too, but I forget what they are - far more ordinary things, like Buttings and Wun! Wun! and stuff.

The Trip

I will arrive in Dublin late tomorrow night and leave early Tuesday morning. However, I might be able to meet people on the way back, as I will arrive in Dublin in the late afternoon on the 25th, at Heuston Station. I'm looking forward to trying the Luas.

When Rhiannon was about 6 weeks old, I dreamt that I was shopping in Leicester, without her. But it was OK, she was with Paul. Except when I met up with him, he didn't have her because he thought she was with me.

I woke up shaking, and in a cold sweat. It was horrible.

Rhiannon knows that Daddy's name is Paul, and she will call him that (sounds more like Paw). However, Mummy's name is Mummy. She is very firm about that.

One of the last nights that we stayed with YoungBloke till he was asleep, I called to Dave because it was his turn, and YoungBloke called "day" too. He's not done it since, though.

Have a good time with your Mum.

I can offer the services of my car from Heuston, if you need it and the car-seat will fit (I'm not even sure if she still needs it or if you're bringing it, or what). but, I'll just be doing college stuff and am pretty flexible as far as any arrangements go, anyway.

Apparently when I was small I was fascinated by phones. My parents would call the talking clock and I’d converse with her at length. I did’t get to do my own dialling, though…

Once when I was three or so mum was on the phone for ages. Shortly after she finished talking, it rang again, so I picked it up and said, “She’s already talked to you.,” and hang up. Her mother was somewhat confused by this statement.

I'm so old we didn't have 9-1-1 when I was a kid, but instead, my mom had to call the phone company for a lot of long distance calls. Turns out, since a lot of the numbers were "1" and "2", they figured it out -- I could only get the dial to go that far, so that's where all my calls ended up.

Now with pushbuttons, Squeaky can call ANYWHERE.
