Sick baby

Linnea is wide awake. She's just been sicker than I've ever seen her, all over the dining room floor, sofa, etc. We've cleaned up - her, the floor, us - and she's watching TV quietly with Rob now.

She peed a total of three times today. She went overnight at least 16 hours without a pee. She had a huge diarrhoea nappy and this huge vomit. She's very very quiet and refusing most food and fluids except breastmilk and ginger biscuits.

Rob is working from home tomorrow, if he's working. With her this sick, I can't manage - I have this bug too, though not as badly.

It's terribly sad, her being sick like this. It has changed her whole personality. We may well take her to the doctor again tomorrow.

But she has new words - Orse (Horse) and Dish (Fish).

just keep applying breastmilk, and water if she'll take it. poor L. poor you & Rob. Peeing 3 times may not be great, but it's 3 times more than none.

have you tried the BRAT diet? I think that's supposed to be good for what she's got - I think it's bananas, rice, applesauce, toast - simple food, some of which is designed to block her up a bit.

I know it's always hardest to see them sick when they aren't very often, my first was never sick, so a puke was a cue for major panic in me, my 2nd was a puker from day one, I was a little more relaxed about it all for a while.

keep her warm and comfortable, hold her when you can, and try and look after yourselves when you have 5 minutes.

the ginger biscuts should be helping her - ginger is good for nausea.

Poor little one. And poor you, being sick and having to deal with cleaning up after she's been sick.

I have no practical advice to give, unfortunatly, just a desire that things get better (and I just realised that my parents house was probably saoked in baby bodily fluids for a period of years and that cleaning agents can be wonderful things :)

I hate it when they're so quiet because they're poorly. Hope she's improving in the morning.

I have been doing the vomiting thing myself. "Fun", isn't it?

I hope your lot is better soon.

Squeaky never just went "bloop", she would always get super scared and wigged out. That's probably why I've always just held her and let her throw up right on me. Whatever I'm wearing is more easily washible than anything else she'd be on, anyway.

I'm hoping she's feeling better soon, and you too.

Poor baby! I hope she's got enough fluids staying in her. And poor you -- both of you.

Keep offering all the fluids, but with babies it's hard to get them to take anything unless they want it, which is why the bresatmilk is good.

Vomit - like all liquids - goes an awfully long way. But I'd be beginning to be concerned about the reduction in weeing. If it continues I think you'd be right to go back to the doctor.

Yeah, I'd have to echo the dehydration concern. Can you talk to a nurse on the phone, before bringing Linnea in? On the other end, if she can handle it, applesauce is very good for diarrohea; it has a lot of pectin. My kids always tolerated it very well.

I've always thought it the worst when the kids were sick and I was, too. Good thoughts your way, Ailbhe.
