  1. anxiety:
I find anxiety very dull, but the alleviation of anxiety is fascinating. I am *intensely interested* in the alleviation of anxiety. And open to ideas.
  2. c-sections:
I shall have to have some if I'm lucky.
  3. chosen family:
I find my chosen family much more successful than my blood relations, though there is some overlap, of course.
  4. discworld:
Augh! Well. Um. I don't even read the books much any more. But my life revolves around it.
  5. hospital birth:
I had a hospital birth. I have often wondered how different a home birth could have been, and whether I will ever get to find out. Hospital birth - and the medicalisation of the birthing process - has a lot to answer for.
  6. motherhood:
Hurrah for motherhood! It's so bizarre because everyone "knows" what it's about and everyone but everyone means something significantly different than everyone else by it. OK, except for the people who think it's nothing more than "the state of being the female parent of at least one non-adult". Both of them.
  7. nutrition:
    I like food.
  8. polyamory:
Well, alt.polyamory, really. I find relationships fascinating though.
  9. the archers:
Hurrah for Radio 4, one of the best things about living in England!
  10. writing poetry:
Um, yes, well, [livejournal.com profile] lnc and all that, you know.

  1. asl: American Sign Language. This is not the same as British Sign Language, or in fact Irish Sign Language. Most countries have different sign systems with their own dialects within that. I can fingerspell in ASL now.
  2. british sign: See ASL. I know a bit of British Sign Language (BSL) as I am based in Sheffield, UK. Most people in Great Britain sign BSL, but there is also ISL which iirc is prevalent in parts of N and S Ireland, Scotland (catholic populations) and other Catholic deaf organisations in England/Wales.
  3. computers: Speaks for itself. Useful things computers.
  4. deafness: I'm partially deaf.
  5. hoh: I'm also technically hard of hearing. Hard of hearing is less annoying for me than Hearing Impaired which I hate. These definitions are very fluid and blurred at the best of times.
  6. kimble: My girlfriend. Need I say more.
  7. linux: I am interested in linux, but haven't played with it enough to justify saying much more.
  8. phones are evil: I hate phones for voice. I can't hear well enough to follow people and it's very stressful. Officialdom seems to love making people wait hours in phonequeues or for incoming calls which never happen. I almost never accept incoming calls from unknown callers. I would like to be able to use text based chat systems for official calls, but I'm stuck with relay services for now.
  9. sheffield: The city in which I did my degree and now live. I consider Sheffield to be my home and somewhere I will stay unless given sufficient incentive to leave. It's cheap, cheerful and the locals are generally lovely once you learn to parse their accents.
  10. speechreading: The American term for lipreading. I hate it myself, but it's a useful synonym. The justification for 'speechreading' is that you are reading speech not people's lips. I argue that lipreading is accurate because you are watching their lips. Now lipwatching, that's a good word, I shall add that to my interests now.
