I couldn't handle the stress of actually looking into proper publication for the Pomes so I've done it myself, said the little red hen. I shoved together a Word document and a few b+w photos with a little editing, and 18 of the pomes are now available on paper. I've ordered it myself to see what it's actually like. If I've done my conversion right, it's only about £7.50 including shipping from the US, so that's ok. It's called before baby walks and I have no idea what the print quality is like - cheap, I expect. It's also possible to download a print-ready PDF from there, but since it's for a 7.5" x 7.5" page it's probably not worth the effort.

But at least now I can stop stressing about finding the blasted Writers and Artists Yearbook upstairs in the central library in town while Linnea throws a tantrum. Perhaps I'll just be discovered and offered a movie contract in Hollywood, with Ingrid Bergman playing part of hypoteneuse.

I slept badly last night and feel lousy about self-promotion. Sorry. I'm a crankypants.

Livejournal users will recognise the cover art, though!

Edited to add: Agh! People are BUYING it! Didn't I tell you I don't know what it looks like yet? If it sucks it's not my fault! I tried! If you're not sure, wait unti I get my own copy and can tell you what it's really like - I can't refund you your money because it doesn't come to me, it goes to lulubooks! Agh! I am a fraud masquerading as a writer! Help help help!

How wonderful! I've ordered one. I can't wait to see how it turned out, and what pomes you decided to include.

I ordered calendars from Lulu a few Christmases ago, and they were decent quality. Not quite the quality of a storebought product, but not bad either. I plan to use them again when I finally get around to making a digital scrapbook type thing.

Lulu are reasonably good, if memory serves. Certainly the other book I know of done via them didn't get any complaints about the quality. (Well, okay, it got a lot of complaints about the quality, given it was Atlanta Nights but directed at the author not the press.)

I bet yours comes before mine, since you're on the right continent.

Possibly, but I'm at the mercy of Canada Post, remember. Just yesterday I received a CD that had been posted from a smallish town in Ontario (the province next door) two weeks ago.

And besides, you know the quality doesn't really matter. It's Your First Book. I have to have a copy.

More importantly, I've gone back and read a bunch of your stuff on the other journal, so the reading part will be very cool. That's most important.

It's a lot cooler to put a little book into a shower basket than a URL to a livejournal :^)

I'd love to read it - even if I'm not mothering/expectant mothering/going to be expectant mothering for a while. Partly because your journal notes have been very honest about what you're living through, and that is an attractive quality - the poems might have some of that too...
