I squeezed the molluscs and got little lumps. After the one 3.5mm in diameter I didn't squeeze any more. None of the others were big enough for her to scratch them, so unless they get that big, I'm leaving them alone. We can take her to the doctor to be squeezed. It was horrible. It hurt her.

Rob took Linnea swimming because I've lost my membership card. I'd better find it again, because they charge to replace it.

Given that in a typical day of errands I use at least eight different plastic cards, between loyalty cards that give points, discount cards, and payment cards, how can I manage them such that Linnea can't get her hands on them? I need some kind of card case that will hold all 12 or so cards that I use at least weekly (three library cards, railcard, two bus cards, bank cards and loyalty cards), I think. But it has to be small enough to fit in a jeans pocket. That would solve it nicely. Ideas?

could you just use like a hole punch and a chain and just link them all together? Unless they have to be wholly inserted or they do impressions of the card....

Or you could use like a folding-money envelope, and just fold it one more time.

I have a useful card case that does that, which Lloyds Bank gave to their customers. I obtained mine and the previous one which it replaced while going out with Ben, who banked with Lloyds at the time.

I work[1] for LTSB but it's over fifteen years since I was in the banking hall. When it was TSB only, we did supply a card holder. The standard ones were pretty tacky and needed replacing every year or so but I coughed up a couple of quid for something a bit more sturdy in 1987 and I'm still using it. Not certain I'd like to put it in my back jeans pocket though. It's a bit bulky.

I'll get one of my colleagues to dig around and see what (if anything) is still being supplied.

Banks certainly used to give out little "flipbook" things, plastic pockets bound at one side, to hold cards in - I'll keep an eye out for any.

(The problem is, if you lose it you lose them all...)

I've just poked home - apparently we have one or two lying around in various drawers. If you collar me on IRC with an address I'll try and get one dropped in the post to you...

I use a small zippered hemp change purse. It's not organized inside at all -- just a zippered hemp pouch. It goes in my jeans pockets. It currently contains two bus tickets, about $90 in cash and coins, and twelve cards or pieces of ID. It works out much better for me and is smaller and lies flatter than most organized card holders I've tried.

Ahh, yes. That would definitely pose a problem with the pouch that I use.

Go to the bag and purse stall of your local market - they have all sorts of small purse or wallety things small enough for pockets (it's where I got my baby-mini-teeny purse that fits in any pocket) :-)

The plastic pockets bound at one side is very useful - I've not replaced my wallet since something like 1998 because when I've looked at wallets in shops I've not found what I'm looking for. A key advantage is that most damage to the pockets is repairable with sellotape hence they can last longer.

Mine has 4 pockets plus a slide-in pocket for easy showing of ID. As each pocket can double up (triple up if necessary, especially once ripped and repaired) and the slide-in has extra space I can go up to 11 cards comfortably and potentially 17, with some other spaces that would work if the area for notes wasn't ripped in the middle. I'd definitely recommend them above all others, and let me know if you find any good value ones!

I've got a little zipperd pouch with an outside pocket, which I found on sale at an upscale luggage shop years ago. The pocket is currently holding 15 cards; it would probably max out at a dozen if they were all plastic, but some are thinner cardboard. The zippered bit is where I keep my cash.

Unfortunately, I can't find anything like it on the manufacturer's site -- mine is by Bosca. It's leather, and very well made. The ones with plastic sleeves never last long for me.
