Dr B won't see me, and I refuse to see Dr C because she has already said that she couldn't see anything wrong with me prior to the perineal repair that meant I regained continence and no longer needed codeine to get through the day. That's unfair - what she said was that although there might be something wrong, she didn't know enough to tell, what with natural varation and so on. So anyway, I have an appointment with Dr D on the 28th, I think, of July.

If she persists in telling me there's nothing wrong, I will ask her what if Rob couldn't have sex because every time he tried he got an excruciating pain in his penis and had to curl up into a ball and cry, instead. There's no male tampon analogy, but the sex one is pretty universal. Anyway practically no-one thinks that being able to take my daughter to swimming lessons while I'm having a period is important. Hah.

Bitter? Me? I'm not bitter. I'm pissed off.

OK, and bitter.

That's ridiculous. I don't suppose they gave a reason why Dr B wouldn't see you? And more than a month to see Dr D?

*hugs*

That's appalling.

Surely if Dr B has gynae as a speciality and someone specifically asks to see her with a gynae problem she's duty bound to at least made an effort? *gobsmacked* Otherwise why would she have 'gynae' next to her name, what's the point?

I'd be bitter and pissed off in your situation. Sounds like an awful lot of jobsworths around at the moment. I assume you don't have the energy to complain to the practice manager about how you've been treated, hell I don't even know if he/she could change anything.

I loathe GP receptionists, so often they are a barrier to people accessing legitimate medical help that they need. The receptionist should know what specialities the Drs have, especially if that info is on the website and known by other professionals.

Argh, gnash, fang. This is insufferable, what they're putting you through. Really. I can't believe Dr B won't see you, although she's the practice's ob/gyn person. And the deep, deep sexism that I suspect is wrapped up in it all just makes me want to roar until that there feminist utopia arrives...

Of course, one can't know for sure. But a hypothetical conversation the gist of which is

"I can't have sex with my husband."
"Gosh, your poor husband!"

is depressingly plausible.

I think there's an assumption around that internal female ailments (other than, maybe, the women-only forms of cancer) are minor, and that making a fuss about them is an overreaction. Which, again, gnash.

Shame on Dr B, and on whoever is controlling access to Dr B.

I don't understand about Dr C -- why wouldn't she give you a referral to a gynecologist? It's good that she acknowledges that she can't help, but the next step ought to be "so I'll send you to someone who can", not "so you're stuck with whatever is wrong".

I had a different set of issues with the first practice I registered with here, and there's not a lot of choice where I live anyway. But they were serious issues and so having been told that my Doctor would refuse to 'release' me as a patient to the next nearest practice, I wrote to the local [insert whatever they call the NHS registering bureucracy in Reading these days]. Within three weeks they wrote back apologising that I had problems my doc, agreeing that it would be best if I moved and confirming that the head of the next nearest practice had agreed to take me as a patient so there was no need for me to be further humiliated by the evil-bitch-troll that is the local doctor in Burghfield. I suggest you ask to switch to a Reading surgery that has someone who specialises in gynaecological issues, explaining the problems you've had. I expect they will do it very fast.
