Linnea is over a year old. It's time for me to re-introduce dairy into my diet, to see how she does. Before I got this bug, I ate yoghurt every morning for three days, and she was fine. The yoghurt was fine, too - tangy and pleasant.

Today I tried to eat a cheese sandwich. I took one bite. It was horrible. I tried a glass of milk. It was very very unpleasant. I used to love this stuff. What happened? I used to eat breakfast cereal with milk on it, cheese and crackers, and a cup of milky tea for breakfast. Lunch? Cheese on toast, glass of milk, yoghurt, scones and butter. Dinner? Lasagne, scrambled eggs on toast, pizza, macaroni cheese with lots of garlic. French toast swimming in butter. Quiche. Omelettes. Bagels and cream cheese. Sour cream on chili. Parmesan on bolognese. Hot chocolate with whipped cream on top - real whipped cream not sprayed - and pain au chocolat. Croissants. Buttered toast. Sponge cake. Butter icing. Lattes and cappucinos. Roast chicken with breadsauce. Creamy gravy. Olives and feta and cherry tomatoes, warm from sitting in the sun. Shortbread. Chocolate spread. Penne carbonara. Ice cream.

Hopefully, it's just a blip, and I'll get right back on the milk wagon. The electric one that hums in the mornings.

I don't know if this information is correct or not but I have been told that, if you totally exclude dairy from your diet your body will not be able to tolerate it if it is re-introduced.

Takes a while to lose tolerance completely, though.

I've never liked cheese or yoghurt but love all the other milky products.
Even semolina pudding.

While it's true, it's reversible. They say that one good way is to eat a cup of yogurt every day. It apparently contains some of the organisms you need to get growing in your digestive tract again to be able to handle dairy.

On the other hand, once I stopped drinking milk for a while, I also found the taste really pretty icky, and the *smell* ... it always smelled curdled / off to me. Suddenly I could understand what I'd heard about people in dairy-light or dairy-free cultures saying that North Americans smell like spoiled milk.

I never did manage to give up cheese for long periods of time, so I haven't seen what that does to me appreciation for the stuff.

I just drink soy milk instead of milk now.

The reverse has always been true for me. If I cut it out for a while (and have done a year plus before now) I've been better once I reintroduce it, not worse.

Good luck, but I wonder if you'll need to be off the white stuff until you stop BFing.

Jack had a problem with dairy, so L cut it out for while, re-intro'd it later and he's OK with it now. By both routes.

I'd say (and obviously, I'm not Ailbhe, but it worked for us) I'd reintroduce dairy to her own diet and see if that affects L. If not, then start introducing it to L direct. If you wait till L's weaned a) it could be a long time! and b) you might not be sure it's dairy that's affecting her, rather than being weaned.

Which is a complete bummer and one I sympathise with.

Start with yoghurt again. It may be that your taste hasn't completely recovered from the bug and that's affecting the milk and cheese.

When I was young, I was on a rotation diet for allergy diagnosis at one point. When milk was reintroduced, I couldn't stand the taste. I still can't drink milk straight, but I like cheese and most other dairy products.
