Linnea doesn't have nappy rash. She's chapping. And there's a bit at the very back, past all the business areas, that's so chapped it bleeds.

We're doing a lot of nudity and rug-washing, in an effort to keep it clean and dry. We're even using a disposable tonight, in the hopes that the nappy rash it will cause won't be as awful as the chapping we hope it cures.

Other than that, it's all great. She's 10 months old in 9 days, she can walk quite along way (about 15 metres, definitely), she likes bolognese sauce a la Rob.

Hi. [livejournal.com profile] bopeepsheep sent me over :-).

It sounds like she might have thrush or have you ruled that out? The cure for that is relatively easy if not. Canesten 2% alternated with Daktarin worked for us, along with boil-washing nappies with tea-tree oil in the rinse water.

The other thing I could suggest is a food allergy. My DD got a horrendous nappy rash when we tried giving her yoghurt at around 9 months. It re-occurred any time she ate anything with cows' milk in it even in tiny amounts. We kept her off all dairy products as much as possible for almost 2 years and it seems to have just about been outgrown.

nah, on occasion it can show up without the whitestuff, just the itching and the raw swelling. not fun and kind of disturbing when it happens.
hope things are improving by now.

It doesn't make you a bad parent. It just means you're inexperienced.

Linnea is your first kid. Parents always make mistakes on the first kid. You are not a bad parent; you're just human.

Sounds just like the thrush YoungBloke gets occasionally. Whip along to the doctor for a second opinion and some canesten if it is.

Plenty of nudity and rug-washing, and the bath is quite nice too.

Take all your cotton nappies and the wraps and wash them at the hottest they'll take. When YB gets thrush I do all mine on 90C with a standard scoop of powder rather than a half-measure, rinse at least once, and then I stick every nappy, individually, in the microwave for a minute at full power. Until all the nappies are done YB gets to wear Moltex dispos.

Bottom balm from, um, Little Green Earthlets, I think, was fab last time he started to get thrush. I was visiting a friend and she put some in a pot and said "try this" and it cleared up before I had a chance to get to the GP. Vast improvement within 24 hrs. It's got ti tree oil in it.

And you aren't a bad mother. I don't know about Linnea, but YB can go from a little pink patch on one buttock that looks like he's been sitting too long to raw, chapped and /nasty/ in the time between one nappy change and the next.

I don't know you, but the impression I get from your journal is that you couldn't be a bad mother if you tried.
