Today the dancing school reopened for the new term, and we went along. Emer is three now, which means she's old enough for lessons.

Oh, the cute. The terrible terrible cute. It BURNS.

I could see Emer throughout the lesson, and she was clearly having a wonderful time. She tried to follow the steps, jumped and bent her knees and pointed her toes, bounced and stepped and hopped, and had a marvellous, marvellous time. She loves that it's a class with a teacher whom she can follow, which did make the bits where she was supposed to pay attention to a partner rather awkward, but she's having a fantastic time.

I couldn't see Linnea well but she was eager to get in to the lesson and said afterwards that she had a nice time. What I saw of her showed the usual silent, almost-expressionless focus I've come to associate with later evidence of massive cognitive leaps. So it didn't look like much but I expect it will later.

They did waltz and samba and cha-cha and a little line-dancing. I laughed myself sore. I am so, so in love with my girls.

I can't fully express how grateful I am to you for recognizing this for what it is. So many parents (and other people) don't, and it will make a world of difference to her happy development that you don't keep chiding her to pay attention or look alert or otherwise be outwardly expressive when there's inward stuff going on. Many many thanks from someone else who gets that blank look when focusing, and has caught a lot of hassle for it.

Hurray for your wonderful girls.

I have started making hair flowers. It's going to take a little time, but they will be nice :)

Our dance school here (mostly a ballet focus, but they have other kinds too) really emphasizes that the classes for the youngest kids (Elena was 3 1/2 when she started last year) are to teach them *how* to be in a dance class - how to pay attention and take turns and follow the leader and stuff like that. I really appreciate their recognition of the importance of that stuff.

Our dance classes started today too - so exciting!

Aisling is starting dance class on Saturday - sadly, I'm off doing politics so Alex is taking her, but she is really looking forward to it.
