Paracetamol and acetaminophen are the same thing, yes. I have no idea how drug names are composed but they are definitely the same (although from experience I can say don't try asking an American pharmacist, because they'll tell you Paracetamol is a brand name. Uh, no...). The OED tells me that the full name is para-acetylaminophenol, which makes it a bit easier to spot the roots of both there.
