May. 31st, 2004 03:00 pmThis week I went into town lots and lots.
On Tuesday I went with Niamh and we bought funky knickers and cute pyjamas and a big bathmat and her interview suit and a nursing bra and stuff. It was incredibly exciting; I'd forgotten that Town has Shops, and that Shops have Stuff, and that buying Stuff is interesting and normal and the kinf of thing that well people do. We got the bus there and back, and it went very well.
On Wednesday I was so thrilled by Town that we went again. This time, there were other buggy-users on the bus, but this time, they were Bad People. Tut-tut - parking pushchair in the middle of the aisle so that even people who aren't dragging babies around can't get on the bus. Wonder why the driver didn't comment? It made life very awkward for the chap in a wheelchair, too - he had to wait for considerable pushchair-shuffling before he could disembark. He was on the bus with us in the evening, too, coming home, and had to park his wheelchair in the wrong place - presumably less safely - because of a pushchair-person being stupid or inconsiderate or both. Grr. In the evening, Ellie and Andy came over, and Andy spent a while cuddling Linnea. Aww :)
On Thursday, I cut Niamh's hair, and the Health Visitor came again. Linnea has gained 5 oz and is thriving. After she left, we checked that Niamh was all packed, and went into town again. We pootled about the shops a bit, then I saw Niamh off at the bus, and waited in a cafe for Rob. He needs practice dealing with a buggy on a bus.
Linnea and I spent almost all of Friday in bed. It was nice. I slept and fed her, and she slept and ate.
On Saturday, Rob and I went into town again, and bought goats' and sheeps' milk cheeses, and had lunch, and I showed him the Parents' Room in John Lewis, and then we came home.
Yesterday, I ironed Linnea's sheets and some of her clothes and some muslins (they're softer ironed. This makes no sense to me, but is true). We also caught up seriously on the housework, and James came to visit, and Gideon and Jen popped in, and I discovered that I am completley incapable of discussing anything except Linnea, pregnancy, Linnea, childbirth, Linnea, nappies, Linnea...
I keep meaning to write up the childcare and non-smoking facilities in Reading, which are pretty good. And the books and films I've ingested lately. Perhaps later.

As for ironing, I know a mum who irons her baby's nappies because it makes them softer - I can well believe it but hate ironing with a passion so I'm afraid YB gets harder nappies...
