ailbhe: (baby)

Well, for the past three days the contractions have slowed right down to hourly or so, and tapered off to much less strong - I'm hardly ever rendered breathless or immobile.

The midwife came today and did a stretch and sweep, which woke the baby up and made it a little sulky (it's stomping around slamming doors and dragging its feet now, any minute I expect to hear it telling me that if I was its real mother I wouldn't have let her do that), and I have an induction appointment for next Wednesday. Which is the last day of week 42, which is about as late as they let one get, really. I could end up waiting that long, as I'm not progressed much towards labour apart from all the exercise; effacement and dilation are minimal (the sweep hurt, owie owie) and my waters are entirely unbroken, smooth and serene as Barry's Pond on a summer day.

That's Diana Barry's pond, by the way. Know Your Anne in Ten Easy Lessons.

People keep recommending that I give myself indigestion as a means of starting labour. It sounds like a hiccup cure to me - mainly useful for the amusement of the patient's friends. I'm quite happy to sit about waiting - and complaining, natch - until this baby decides to be born or the medicos insist on inducing me, whichever comes first. It would be nice if it decided to be born soon, but it knows best. It has, after all, been dictating what I eat, when I sleep, and how often I wash for the past 9 months. Why should I start imposing my will now?

When I was a labor coach for some friends, we used to joke about having cheerleading for the baby. So in case you can use it, here:

Go, baby, go! Go, baby, go!

(You'll have to imagine the pompons and the little flippy skirt.)

I never got past being 36 weeks pregnant so i don't have any helpful advice, althoough both labours started within 24 of a visit to the dentist....

I am so jealous, i've been waiting to hear the happy news.

At work my best friend has recently found out she is having twins, Anna's all babied up and i know another 4 pregnant friends and 2 trying very hard to get pregnant friends...

I think i may ask the school if i could have their 'real baby' for a week, i'm sure it would stop this broodiness.

I was induced with K and it took 4 attempts for them to break the membrane manually because even with the drugs my waters wouldn't break - it was about 3 times thicker than it was supposed to be. Worth it in the end though.

Image This isn't quite the post to comment on, but given that it's most recent, and you're not likely to post for a few days, it seems like the place to wish you all well.
