DIY, Domesticity and Doulas
Feb. 23rd, 2004 11:59 pmOver the course of the weekend, Rob, his father, and our friend Andy installed half the joists in our attic. Now there's a sort of a floor up there. It raised a lot of dust, particularly when Rob had to move all the fibreglass insulation from between the existing joists, and everyone coughed a lot. Rob will write it up in his own journal, I'm sure, because he has pictures. Won't you, Rob?
I spent the weekend in the company of my mother-in-law, who was ill. We did go out to the shops on Saturday afternoon, and I got exciting maternity support pants (wow! What a garment! My life is transformed and my hips will be forever grateful!) and she got a particularly pretty blouse which she may or may not wear for her birthday do.
Today I cleaned the kitchen, including soaking bits of the cooker in laundry detergent, which was effective. I also ran errands for hours and hours and hours, including getting some bits and pieces for the party on Saturday. It looks like there won't be a lot of people there, but it's hard to tell. I'm not going to start baking until Thursday anyway.
Also today I had a call from a doula who may be able to attend me while I give birth. British Doulas were quite emphatic about having no-one available, but someone new has called up and after asking me to tell her what hours I'd want the birth doula for (um, while I'm giving birth. I haven't been told what time that is yet. Hello?) and how many days I want the birth doula for (While I'm giving birth. Labour. Not often scheduled in advance, no?) and telling me that the doula had been told my address - she hadn't - she found one who made an appointment to come and see me next week. We shall see. I very much doubt she can make it, as she's one I was told before couldn't do it.
