Ebay, swimming, and underwear
Feb. 11th, 2004 02:50 pmI've sold a mousemat on Ebay, too. The cheque arrived, accompanied by a note on illustrated notepaper, of the kind Rob's grandmother (and quite possibly his mother, too) uses. It was very pleasant. Then there was a little cheque from - you'll never believe this - the tax man, so I went into town yesterday to lodge them.
On Monday we woke incredibly early, because it was bright out, and by 08:30 I'd done my morning housework, Rob had nipped out to the supermarket to find it was closed, and we started our geekery for the day. That was kind of scary. Luckily, on Tuesday things were back to normal, with crawling out of bed followed by hours of sluggishness.
I went to my Aquanatal class (those floats waggle like tails behind us, when we do our pedalling exercises; also, it's even sillier looking when we do the exercises only waist-deep in water using polystyrene dumbells to increase resistance. It must be good for me - my arms and legs ache happily afterwards). The instructor was alarmed when I experienced a particularly vicious kick - some of them do actually hurt, now - because I pulled a hideous face and he thought the exercise was too vigorous for me.
After class, I ran errands in town. I returned the last of my Joan Aiken - of the adult stuff I've read, I didn't like most of the historical fiction much, but enjoyed Foul Matter immensely - and got a couple of Alice Walkers. I've never read Temple of my Familiar before, for some reason, and I think I like it. It reminds me strongly of Allende though.
I also went to be fitted for a maternity bra; I hope I don't need to buy any more. The nice lady in the shop apologised because their maternity bras are all cotton. Um. Apparently I get more choice when it comes to nursing bras, though, and I also need to find out what on earth is meant by zip-cup, drop-cup, snap-cup, and a bunch of other terms. In my next life, I'm going to be a chimp. They get much better toes and don't need clothes. I've always liked bananas.

A drop cup has a clasp at the point where the cup meets the bra strap so you just unclip the strap and flap the cup down.
From the looks of it, I'd think the drop cup might be easier to handle in terms of not having to do boob-stuffing afterwards, but if I were you, I'd see if I can try both on and practise one-handed to see which suits you best.
Oh, and you'll probably want to buy a bra to wear in bed for a while as well, since I know friends of mine have found it much easier to sleep in one when breastfeeding.

The drop cups tend to require one hand to hold the strap away from the body at the right angle and the other to manoeuvre the clasp into the loop on the strap. Trying before buying is definitely a good idea, and preferably in a sitting position - some fastenings that work standing up don't work so well sitting down, and vice versa.
Nursing bras ...

Date: 2004-02-11 03:28 pm (UTC)I had a drop cup bra which i found to be one-arm friendly. Personally i would steer clear of the zip type as if you're ever in a rush to get redressed you could nip yourself. (Every guy reading will now have crossed there legs in sympathy)
Definitely wear a bra in bed as you don't want to keep your belly button warm just yet ;-)
