Jan. 19th, 2004 11:59 pmThis morning, Mormor's home help came to make her bed and help her shower, so we woke slightly earlier than usual. The rest of the day we spent ambling around the shops in Hemse; we found coloured pencils in the stationers (to colour in my cross-stitch diagram so that I can more easily see where I have finished) and an embroidery hoop in the knitting shop. The haberdashers, though delightful, didn't have any embroidery things. The knitting shop had a range of cross-stitch kits, with much nicer images than those I've found so far in England, and a very lovely, friendly, kittenish little sausage dog, who came out to say hello to us twice, and was twice hustled back behind the counter while its owner apologised for importuning us. I am tempted to go back to the shop just to meet the dog, but I'm sure that if I do, I'll only end up buying some piece of craft stuff that I don't in the least need and will never use. Pity; nice doggie.
Then we went into The Other Supermarket; Konsum, which, like ICA, is a franchise, but, unlike ICA, has no branches being run by part of the Svensson family and cannot command our loyalty by any means other than the excellence of its service, the salubriousness of its surroundings, and the fact that it has a little room full of Lego where you can abandon your children while you buy meatballs, Ryvita and pickles. So that's us sold. They also stock a far greater range of organically produced goods than ICA do, but a much smaller range of cereals. Should you ever go to Hemse in search of groceries, this will be very useful information.
We're getting through a lot of milk and apple juice here, because I don't like the taste of the water; it doesn't make very good tea, either.
