It's all go, innit?

Sunday in Sweden. Hm. We woke nice and late, and in the afternoon, Rune took us all out for a drive as far as Levide church, where Robert's Morfar, Evald, is buried, We looked at the grave (in the snow) and got back into the car and went back to Rune's, where Lotta was cooking our dinner. Meantime, we watched slides of the Svensson grandchildren when they were younger; Rune's family on holiday in England, various Christmasses, that kind of thing. Mormor Greta loved it, and Linnea, Robert and I found bits of it interesting. There was a photo of Rob looking about 10 or 12, taken when he was 15, which was kind of strange, and a few of Rune looking just like Robert.

We ate dinner, and watched more slides while Lotta made dessert, and ate dessert. I like eating in their house, because they believe in vegetables as part of a normal diet, whereas most places I've eaten here believe in vegetables as an accompaniement to meat. The climate does encourage a winter diet of grease, fat, lard and carbohydrates, but I need a little greenery in my life. And milk. Lotta served a mixed salad and cauliflower, and what's more, the cauliflower was crunchy and tasty, not boiled into a submissive mush as is traditional. And dessert was fresh fruit salad, with ice-cream. Bananas and apples and melon and oranges and I forget what else. Considering that earlier, I had gone out and bought a melon specifically so that I could secretly stock up on vegetable matter between meals, this was very pleasant to me indeed.

After dinner we went home and I think we went to bed more or less immediately. Rune was going to bring Linnea into Visby, where she goes to school during the week; an hour's commute each way seems trivial enough, but when you consider the climate, it makes sense for adolescents in the Gymnasium to lodge in Visby and only go home at weekends. Mormor had an appointment in Visby hospital for Tuesday, so we arranged that Robert and I would travel in with her and Rune to the appointment and meet up with Linnea in the afternoon.
