I don't watch soap operas, but...
Sep. 22nd, 2003 06:00 pmLately I've been thinking about how I used to write to my Nana about all the stuff that was happening in my life, slightly censored, and wondering what a soap opera character might write. This would be easier if it was less than 6 years since I'd seen an episode of anything.
Dear Nana,
Sorry I haven't written in so long. I've been away. I hope you're better and that you've been taking your tablets. I've only been back home a week. Everyone says they missed me. Well, except Janey. But Rodney said he missed me - he's the best brother-in-law anyone could have. He and Janey had some kind of row while I was gone, and Janey isn't talking to me or him. She'll probably get over it, though. They never usually argue for long.
Sam passed the exam for college, so she can do her management course. She's moved out of my room now that I'm back, but since she's not studying so much it's ok.
Do you remember my friend Alex from school? He's married now; he met a lovely girl while he was working abroad last summer and brought her home. She's going to have a baby soon, and Alex is really quite pleased. He hopes it's a girl, because then it will look like its mother and not its father.
My boyfriend broke up with me when I went away, so I'm single now, but I'm not feeling too bad about it. We hadn't been together long enough to get really serious anyway, and I think he probably drinks too much. He kept getting into fights outside the pub. Nothing serious ever came of it.
I'm looking for a job near Mum's house, preferably someting that doesn't involve shift-work. Someone I met while I was away will give me a character reference, and so will one of the neighbours. I hope I can get something soon.
I promise I'll write more often in future.
Lots of love,
Me.
