The weekend went well. I cooked a roast dinner almost unaided on Saturday, which means I must be better. Rob peeled the potatoes and the carrots and the parsnips, but I timed everything and did the Yorkshire pudding and the gravy. It turns out that I can make Yorkshire pudding, though in future I will make it with a lot less grease than the recipe calls for. It was good, though, apart from being overdone.

On Sunday, I followed up my culinary enthusiasm with pancakes (crepes, not American pancakes) for breakfast, and then we met Darrell and Becky for lunch, and went shopping in Tescos. This was, of course, tremendously exciting and involved the purchase of tinned soups. We had cold roast beef for tea, and I had rice pudding in bed for supper.

I was woken by my nose at half past four this morning. Luckily, we had bought boxes of tissues at Tescos, so I was able to sit up for two hours mopping. I think I must be flushing something out of my system; perhaps the chest cold I had a couple of weeks ago.

I had pancakes for lunch today, too. Pancakes are easy. I have no idea why I always had such trouble with them before. It could have something to do with always taking other people's advice - I usually have two or three people around when there are pancakes in the offing, and no two people make them the same way, as far as I can tell. So two or three people would give me advice, and I'd try to follow all of it, because obvously other people know better than I do. I need to work on that. Preferably without reaching the point of ignoring advice that is useful.

My little sister passed her exam and can now start her final year of her degree. It's astonishing how many of my friends have met her and seem genuinely thrilled she has passed her exam. She is brilliant, I suppose. That must be it. Ah yes - that's where the german measles came into it. She has to be checked for immunity before she can work full-time in childcare.
