Yesterday I sent off my assignment by email yesterday, and bought tickets for WOMAD on Sunday, and did a little tidying up. Then we went to dinner at Darrell and Becky's and played with kittens and walked home very late and slightly drunk, and had decaf tea and went to bed.

This morning we woke late and I had just thought "Ahhh, for the first time since Norway I can lie in bed as late as I like reading a book" when we remembered that the cleaners were coming and I had to leap out of bed and tidy manically. The house looks much better now, and the cleaners have cleaned, and then Rob got dressed, and I got undressed and had a shower and redressed (er...) and then I made lunch and we put up the tent in the library.

It's CCDE again soon, you see. I've already started freezing things to keep things cold (food onsite is strictly fried grease in lard) and today we checked that the tent is ok. It's going to be... challenging... to put it up if it's raining, but I guess sometimes you just resign yourself to being slightly damp for three days. The good thing is that it's clean and there are no obvious leaks. We need to buy a dozen new tentpegs, though; previous years, the ground has been sunbaked enough to bend pegs quite badly.

I've cleaned up the lining of the coolbag a bit, and assembled the various things we want to bring. This evening we'll check that the inflatable mattress works ok and then I can start packing. I really, really want to keep it down to 1 rucksack, 1 chair-in-a-carry-bag, and 1 other item per person. With luck, Rob will only have to carry the rucksack and his chair. I will have to carry the cool bag, which is awkward but inevitable; Rob's back isn't good enough to carry a heavy lopsided weight all day. We may be able to get most of the really heavy things into his rucksack anyway *plot* *scheme* *rubs hands*.

Rob's rucksack will contain the inflatable mattress, the gazebo, and anything else that will fit. My little rucksack will contain the picnic gear and probably things like spare clothes. Some of the "things like spare clothes" will have to go in the chair bags, I think. The coolbag will contain much frozen fruit juice, and some other things which have yet to be determined. Does quiche freeze well? I could make a few quiches and freeze them easily. Mayonnaise and chopped onions will definitely go in the cool bag; cooked potatoes and tinned tuna may go in there but could conceivably be carried somewhere else. If we bring any chocolate, that will go in the coolbag too.

We should consider bringing alcohol; we never do, but it might be a good idea.

About the pegs, for CCDE we've got a bag of giant staples. Think fencing staples. For that ground type they're perfect. Look us up if you don't get new pegs we should have plenty.
