More holidays
Jun. 5th, 2003 11:59 pmToday we got the steam train again and it was even more fabulous. Also, the weather was much better, and we got hot. We went to Corfe by steam train, and to Wareham by bus, and then to Wool on another bus - a special one with no suspension and always-on heating, which was an interesting tummy experience - and then we met Jen! We all went to lunch, which was fabulous, and then Jen drove us to Lulworth cove, through more sweetly pretty English country villages and we all ooooohed at the scenery.
We found our B&B in Lulworth easily enough and the room was fine; the lady was even able to make up an extra bed for Jen with no trouble (actually, I got the extra bed, since it was a child-sized cot thing and I'm smallest). Then we took our swimsuits and hied to the beach, where we slathered ourselves in sunscreen and sat around looking ravishing for a bit.
Janice swam, and Jen plunged, and I went in to my knees and decided to stay on the beach with my hankies and my cold. The water would have been gorgeous had I not had such a cold.
Later Janice and I went down the beach looking for pretty stones and bits of glass. Janice went first, and Jen started to read, so I joined her. Apparently we looked about 5, bending over with our hats on looking for things at the water's edge. We found lots of pretty stones, and some little bits of glass.
And then we set up the camping stove and made tea. Yay tea. English and peppermint. Yum.
We ate dinner in a pub that did fabulous food and humungous portions, and we couldn't manage desert. Then we played rummy for a bit - or it may have been Gin Rummy, I'm not sure. I kept starting to play cribbage all the time, but we won a game each.
Then we tottered off to the B&B and fell deeply asleep. Zzzzzz.
(One month exactly to the wedding, by the way).
