I hope that everyone out there, fighting or reporting or just trying to survive as a civilian in this war, gets home alive.

I hope that everyone out there gets home without having had to kill someone.

I hope that next time there are elections in the UK and US, more people go out and vote. I don't really care who they vote for, as long as they vote. At least that way, I'll feel like maybe the government are doing the will of the people.

I hope that, in spite of the vastness of the US, enough people can get together in an unignorable protest. It sometimes seems to me that there's a core of political activists surrounded by apathy and docility. I guess this means that I hope large numbers of people are against this war. It's obvious here in the UK (I don't know anything about Ireland); people have walked out of schools and businesses and there are many protests being organised in London and elsewhere.

I hope that someday I'll understand why bad things happen to good people.

Are you sure that last one is really something to hope for? :-/ (Realizing you meant it rhetorically.)
