Christmas Eve

I sent the gang (both of them) home from work early, and left early myself. I met Niamh in town to do some shopping, and we shopped, found a few sudden last-minute giftlets, and stopped for hot chocolate and bagels before going home. Mmm.

When we got home, we wrapped gifts and tidied a little. Rob was in the kitchen (where he'd been for some time) peeling potatoes and carrots and parsnips and so on. He was really useful and helpful - he just stood there, peeling and chopping and following instructions, so I could sort of plan from a distance and do all the bits I didn't have time to do beforehand, because of the new job and so on.

We also made two trifles. I'm a little worried about the custard, which looked a bit thin, but it may set anyway. The jam and sponge are top quality - Niamh made the sponge, again. Mmm.

There are vast amounts of pre-prepared veggies on the stovetop.

Janice came around to help us tidy up and did some useful washing up and drying up and tidying. We've washed all the new crockery that we may need ot use tomorrow to make up the numbers.

Niamh and I have Been Santa. Rob has been Santa a little bit too. The library and dining room both have stockings laid out; there will be pictures anon.
