Kittens post-op

The kittens have been spayed. Charcoal (the black one) is ok, but Dust (the tabby) didn't like it at all - she hates her stitches, and we have had to make a collar for her to stop her biting the wound edges. Now she is disoriented, because she can't see properly, her whiskers are inside the cone, and she can't walk next to walls anymore. Every time she goes to sit under something, like a chair, she walks too close to the edge of the entrance and bumps against it. I have to guide her under.

When Olivia was spayed she started pulling at her stitches immediately we got her home. We took her back and got an Elizabethan collar. Like Dust, she found it hard going, but it wasn't on for long.

You needn't feel guilty about this. Once the collar's gone she'll be back to herself before you know it, and it'll be like it never happened.

And you _know_ you did the right thing getting them fixed. I'm proud of you. So many people don't bother.

Thanks :) I wish I could explain it to her, poor puss. (It was only £50 because our vet subsidises the cost. Girl cats can be expensive.)

I've also BTDT, many times and can empathise. I've watched my own cat, Moth, wander around woozy and miserable from anaesthetic, and I've had to bucket-collar some of my mum's cats when I was still at home. They *hate* it - for about a week, then they seem to get resigned, or forget that life was any other way - and they *do* adjust. Then you just have the chore of clearing the cruft from the edges. IME cats will forgive most things for sufficient tuna. Don't feel guilty, you know why you had to lampshade her and it isn't for that long, even in a cat's life.

Poor baby. My Amber tore out her stitches and they had to give her honking big wire ones.

Dust now has a new collar, a real one from the vet's. It's more comfortable than a cardboard one apparently.
