More doing nothing much. In the afternoon we sidled into the rain to see the Reading Carnival, which was incidentally on the same day as the Golden Jubilee celebrations. It was great - mostly black, lots of drums and steel orchestras, some Mardi Gras costumes, and no Traditional English Anything. Even the flag-seller was selling tiny Union Jacks and large Irish tricolours. Reading is very... mixed. In the evening we went to see Attack of the Clones, which Niamh and I thought was crap. We think it's because we didn't grow up on Star Wars - we grew up on Oklahoma and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and My Fair Lady. Star Wars just leaves us so, so cold.

Hm. I did greatly love Yoda-as-dragonfly, and sundry other scenes, but there weren't enough of them that were good enough to carry the movie. Plus I hated Anakin with a passion unmatched by any other, save perhaps my loathing for peeling potatos. So I came out of the cinema thinking that I'd wasted £6 and however many minutes, more or less, though I was glad I'd gone because other people we were with enjoyed it so much and I liked being around and understanding their conversations afterwards even if I couldn't enter into them for fear of raining on their parades.
