Rob and I can afford to let me stay in the actual hotel!

I phoned up earlier today and booked a single room for two nights. I've packed my clothes, pjs, and so on. I'm all set to go; my train ticket is here, my seat's reserved.

I'm scared. I've never stayed in a hotel on my own, I hate going to new places, and I don't know anyone who's going to be there. But I expect it to be wonderful.

I know two people who are going to be there from the livejournal community, so maybe you could look them up on my friends list and say hi? See 7patches and the_ogre -- they left on a flight for London this morning. =)

Tommorrow night may be the strangest, when everyone collects in one room and one glances at a roomful of strangely-familiar strangers. As one associated faces with online personae, I think it gets easier and relaxed.

Fancy hotel protocols... like many things, it helps to pretend that one naturally belongs there, and not be intimidated. Most good hotels want you to enjoy yourself, not sneer at you ;-). Spoken by someone that spends about 60 nights per year on the road...

Have lots of fun! I'm envious...
