Betrayal and pussycats

We stuffed him into a cat basket this morning and dragged him off to the vet. It's time for him to be neutered. Poor Mustard! I feel awful. Yes, it's good for him. Yes, it will lengthen his life. Yes, there are too many stray pussycats. I know.

But when we carried him out into the -2.5 Centigrade morning air, cowering in the back of the cat basket,a nd then into the vet's, where we held him still while he had his heartbeat checked (which he didn't like) and had a couple of injections (which he didn't mind; he seemed to find them interesting), I felt guilty. I wonder will he resent us abandoning him for a whole day? He'll spend most of it out of it, I suppose.

We couldn't even feed the poor guy! I'm a cruel pet owner.
