Serious question

Should I put up an ad somewhere offering myself as a webdesigner? There are so many awful sites out there that are completely unusable for half of my available browsers that surely someone somewhere would like a cheap one that's easy to maintain and update and is accessible by lots of people?

Maybe the being unemployed bug is biting too hard.

But I've come to the conclusion that many folks with crappy sites seem to be happy doing their own thing with FrontPage, and/or can't afford professional design at anything like decent rates. I've got so many friends who are professional designers (Hi Gwen) who are under-employed, lately, that I can't imagine being able to make it worth my time to design pages. For my skill level and the market, I could probably make about $100/month for about 5 hours per week of work.

And I'm not sure most folks care so much anymore whether their pages are compatible with anything other than MSIE.

I'm tired, and my brain is shutting down now. :)

Well, most of the sites I've seen with "Designed by Really Groovy Services Inc, call (mobile phone number) for a reasonable quote" in a meta-tag have been awful. If they can get work, maybe I can too... and £50 a month would be more than I have now.

But I guess I need to wait until someone from this side of the Atlantic joins in.
