Washing machine. Grinding noises. Stopping mid-cycle. Rewound it to the start of the rinse stage, started again, seems ok. Aiee.

I wish I knew more about this stuff. It's probably got a pebble from a child's pocket in it somewhere, or needs an internal filter cleaned out, or something.

Bah.

Do you have a manual, or can you find one online? We were having trouble with the detergent drawer of ours when I was 39 weeks pregnant, and I waddled around the house, failed to find a manual in the manuals box, but did find an online version with google.

The manual had a trouble-shooting guide which I followed and managed to fix the drawer, which was very satisfying.

there are books on fixing everything that one might commonly have in one's home; one of those might be worth acquiring. they tend to have simple, clear explanations and pictures of the mechanics, and a list of things that can go wrong and what's most likely the cause, and how to fix it. i have one by readers' digest of all things, and it does not suck.

There's usually a trap at the base of the washer that foreign objects end up in If it's pebble sized, it should have ended up there - possibly why the noise stopped?

Do you have a 4" turnable knob or screw-in cover at the bottom of the front of the washer? Might be covered by a plastic 'bumper' that matches the styling, ahem "protects the washer".
