Good luck. There's nothing lacking in your adult ness because you weren't able to deal with this before. This is a normal response to trauma.
Sebastian was born almost three years ago and although it wasn't traumatic emotionally, there are physical issues that I have as result. I have a cystocele and the ligaments holding up my bladder are knackered. Although I don't have stress incontinence any more since I got help with doing my pelvic floor exercises properly, I still get urge incontinence because when my bladder gets overfull it just gives up and empties. I have about 10 seconds to get to a toilet before my bladder just empties completely. I also get Stuff Happen which I believe is due to an improperly healed urethral and vaginal tear. I tried to get help about 18 months ago and wasn't taken at all seriously. I was given a painful internal ultrasound but no internal examination. As much as I dislike manual internal examinations there's no way a pelvic ultrasound would be able to detect the problem. My gp has said that there is definitely something wrong there and finally referred me to a specialist, but it's taken me another 18 months to get up the mental spoons to make myself do this. It involved a fair amount of being awkward and insistent, which I'm not very good at doing.
I really hope they can help you and that you can feel happier with how everything is down there.
