I've spent the day in bed recovering from the lactose poisoning. And this evening I had a chat with Rob about the news about my amazingly persistent birth trauma and what we're going to do with it next. The novelty never ends, it's the gift that keeps on giving, it really is.

I think I'd like to find out how long this sort of surgery takes to arrange; if I go to see a GP in the next month or so how long will it be before I get to see a consultant, and how long after that for surgery? I don't really know where to start looking.

Surgery can be done relatively quickly once you've seen the consultant, depending on what they consider your urgency to be. If you have a lot of pain, problems going to the toilet and are at risk of the rectocele becoming more severe, you're likely to be a higher priority. And depending on how childcare arrangements work for you, going on a cancellation list can help. Both my throat and uterine surgeries were done about two weeks after my consultant appointment as I went on the cancellation list. It's not for everyone as they give you very little notice, but it can sometimes speed things up.

Are lactase pills any good for taking with lactose you can't avoid? I'm largely lactose intolerant (acquired through gastro illness) and I can sometimes cheat by taking AllTheLactasePills before/during/after the thing which has lactose in it. I believe you can also get liquid lactase too. Sounds like you have it very badly if it makes you so ill though :(

Good luck finding a timeline for future surgery/gynae stuff.
