It's a year since Astrid's operation and she's completely better. I'm almost better -- I still have to check she's breathing, I'm still tired from a year of 20-minute-sleeps and the last year of her learning how to sleep for up to an hour and then two at a time, etc. I have a magnificent dual-wall coffee pot which keeps three mugs of coffee hot for ages though, so I'm ok.

Linnea will be ten on Wednesday. Her wishlist consisted of a DS3 (I think?) with Animal Crossing, an iPod Touch, a smartphone, and other things she's just not going to get. She's fairly contented knowing she won't get anything from the higher end of her list - she's going on an EcoWeek camp as her big present from us, so that's ok. She's still "daydreaming" (running repeatedly in small patterns with heavy bounces off walls/furniture at each turning point, to enable imaginative thinking) a lot but we've replaced the broken mattress and rearranged the furniture so it shouldn't happen again.

Emer is completely well in every possible way. Sewing, sellotape, string and scissors still loom large in our lives. She made scones for Mary Berry and was told they'd win a prize and awarded Star Baker. We made trousers out of a designer shirt from the charity shop. She made shoes out of leaves.

I've planted pansies and they still aren't dead. We have a hanging basket and a window box out the front. There's a bench out there too and I drink my tea on the front step and sometimes talk to people. The boys who play kerbsies are allowed to do it in front of my house because it annoys the neighbour near their own houses. A little girl with no English draws pictures with Astrid.

I think this will be a good summer.
