I keep the house heated way above what lots of people think necessary. When my family got all sane and lovely and reliable, we ALWAYS had heating - the house was kept up to 15C in winter!

I wash bedding weekly unless life intervenes, and I start to feel icky about day 4 or 5 of sleeping on the fresh sheets. When I was growing up, bedding wasn't washed even fortnightly - maybe monthly, maybe less. And when we were bedwetting the wet sheets sometimes were just allowed to dry.

And we're insanely rich by most people's standards, and I am still constantly worried about money.

OH HAI IT'S THE COMING OF THE DARK AND I AM GETTING MOAR DEPRESSED.

FWIW our thermostat setting is 20C; I really can't tolerate it for long below 18C (it was 17C yesterday for a while until I sorted out the heating, and that was unpleasant for me).

I set our thermostat to 19 degrees when we're in - and keep a blanket on the sofa and turn it up to 20 or higher if anyone is ill or just feeling cold. 15 degrees is our "off" setting overnight.

What's necessary for you and your family is not necessarily the same as what other think necessary.

Ditto. And we do wear sweaters indoors.

You are a lovely person and are not depriving anyone by creating a lovely life. This one isn't a zero-sum situation.

*huggles you*

I wrote Christmas cards to your daughters on Monday night.

Yep. Me too.

I keep trying to plan Christmas to cheer myself up, and worrying about finances keeps interfering, even though I know we are richer than 95% of the people on the planet.

And why-oh-why is it so damn hard to remember to take my head-meds when I KNOW what time of year it is?

Snap. Been without them for 5 days because I get them at the same time as my heart meds, and I can go without the heart meds now without serious impact for nearly weeks. Got hedmeds now.

Christmas in retail takes almost all the joy, wonder and excitement out of it. Plus I have both personal finances and business finances to worry about. I want sunshine again.
