I bought Maeve Binchy's "My First Book" and read it. It was BRILLIANT. I must get her other collections of journalism.
And today I ordered PL Travers' Mary Poppins books "for Linnea," and I've explained that we'll have to share them like we did the Ramona ones because I want to read them too. First. Yeah.
Actually, she's a faster reader than I am these days, what with having more free time to devote to it. So she can go first, I guess.
Mary Poppins has interested her in the Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. Not sure why.

Date: 2012-08-20 10:10 pm (UTC)I remember noticing the calm assumption that anyone who found out that a family was away on vacation would, *as a matter of course*, break in and rob it, even if they had a normal day job. Also that the person had been told the house would be empty by a maid who had previously been instructed not to tell anyone. My sister noticed the, at best, dated, depictions of black people.
