We saw it this evening, there over the railway bridge, between the chimneypots, just sitting there in the sky, all planetary and red and something huge like eighty million kilometers away or something. Fifty million miles? But there, just past the end of Salisbury Road.

Anywhere from around 50 million kilometres to around 400 million kilometres, depending on where Earth and Mars are in their respective orbits, with the average being around 225 million kilometres. There's a website here that shows a constantly-updated current distance, but sadly it's in miles, so you'd have to stop the count and do the conversion to get it in kilometres. As I type this, it's somewhere around 108 million kilometres.

It's awesome, eh? :) I can claim no responsibility for it or even for knowing it; It just came up when I was google searching earlier. I stared at it gleefully for a while. :)

It really is! I have been sitting in a pub garden looking at it all evening.
